2027–2028 A.I.R. Fellowship Program

Open to
Women and non-binary visual artists working in any medium who are 18 or older and reside in one of New York City’s five boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, or Staten Island) for the full duration of the Fellowship. Applicants must not have had a solo exhibition at a permanent NYC venue in the last 10 years, be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the Fellowship, or participate in a comparable development, fellowship, or residency program during the Fellowship. Applicants must also not currently be members, employees, or board members of A.I.R. Gallery, have previously had a solo show at A.I.R., or be A.I.R. Fellowship alumni.

What’s Provided

  • 4–5 professional development workshops in Fall 2027.

  • A solo exhibition at A.I.R. Gallery in Spring/Summer 2028.

  • An artist mentor at A.I.R. Gallery.

  • One-on-one studio visit with a review panelist.

  • Ongoing studio visits and support from A.I.R. staff.

  • $3,000 stipend.

What the artist/applicant must cover
The call does not specify particular applicant expenses. Fellows are expected to participate in the program in person, execute a solo exhibition, hold a group discussion during their exhibition, and participate in the professional development workshops.

The application is reviewed anonymously. Submitted materials must not include the artist’s name, including filenames and the body of submitted images, statements, CVs, or other files. The program awards six fellowships. A.I.R. does not provide visa sponsorship. Artist teams and collaborative groups may apply under the conditions specified in the call.
