Artist Residency 2026 – Baltic Analog Lab & Skaņu Mežs

Artists and researchers working with analog media, photochemical film, photography, or experimental sound. Applicants must have previous experience and be able to work independently with equipment. Researchers seeking time for creative work may also apply.
Application Fee
No application fee.
Residency fee: 500 EUR per month (paid before arrival).
What’s Provided
Bedroom in a shared 4-bedroom apartment with a large common working/living area
Wi-Fi, kitchen, shared bathroom
Access to BAL facilities: darkrooms, workspaces, dark screening room, equipment (lomo tanks, photo enlargers, Steenbeck, etc.)
Access to the Neilson-Hordell optical printer (for experienced artists only)
Option to rent film equipment (cameras, projectors, tripods, etc.)
Sound studio setup with analog synthesizers and related equipment
Possibility to give a public presentation, screening, performance, or workshop
Connections to the local artistic and underground music community
What the Artist Must Cover
Residency fee
Travel, living, and material costs
All film, chemistry, and related materials (mixing specific chemistry available by prior agreement and cost)
Additional training if needed (must be arranged in advance and may include extra cost)
No pets allowed

1–2 months (January–April 2026)

Late applications may be considered if spaces remain.
Additional Notes
Space is run by an artist collective; applicants should be self-sufficient.
Discounts may be considered for applicants from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
The residency does not require the project to be completed during the stay.
