What’s Provided

  • Fully funded participation in the 2027 Cave Canem Annual Retreat

  • Subscription to Digest, Cave Canem’s bimonthly community publication

  • One-year subscription to Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora for all new Fellows

What the Artist Must Cover

  • Submit one cover letter

  • Submit a PDF containing six pages of original poems written in English

  • Follow the application formatting requirements provided by Cave Canem

Essential Notes

  • Only one application per candidate is permitted.

  • The retreat takes place at the University of Pittsburgh–Greensburg.

  • Cave Canem Fellows become eligible for additional partner opportunities, including scholarships with the Community of Writers, Fine Arts Work Center, and Sewanee Writers’ Conference.
