Open Call: Experiment with Digital Weaving on the TextielLab’s TC2 Loom

Location: TextielMuseum | TextielLab, Tilburg, The Netherlands

Open to

Professional artists, designers, and recent graduates with a background in art, design, and/or textiles. Applicants should have a clear research question and project plan, be able to work independently, and have a basic understanding of computer-controlled weaving and design software. Knowledge of computer-controlled weaving is an advantage.

Application Fee

No application fee is specified. A one-time contribution of €350 is required for the technical introduction to the TC2 loom.

What’s Provided

  • Access to the TC2 digital Jacquard loom and relevant facilities at the TextielLab and TextielMuseum.

  • Technical introduction to the TC2 loom at the start of the residency.

  • Technical support and consultation with specialists during the working period.

  • Access to the available yarn collection.

  • A fee of €200 per month.

  • Access to the museum collection, exhibitions, presentations, and library for research and development.

What the artist/applicant must cover

  • A one-time contribution of €350 for the technical introduction.

  • Travel and accommodation costs, which are not covered.

Duration

January–June 2027, for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 months. Working days are Tuesday to Sunday, by arrangement, during opening hours.

Any other essential notes

Applicants must submit the following materials:

  • CV: maximum 1 A4 page.

  • Portfolio: maximum 5 pages.

  • Project description: maximum 500 words.

  • Visual material: maximum 5 pages.

The project proposal should explain what the applicant wants to make or research, which materials they expect to use, and why they want to work with the TC2 loom.

Selected residents are expected to leave samples and/or other relevant research materials for the archive and share their research process through an open studio, presentation, conversation, or online report.

The selection announcement is scheduled for November 27, 2026, approximately four weeks after the application deadline.
