Exhibition Fellowship – Root Division

Open to
Emerging arts professionals passionate about exhibitions programming, curatorial practice, and gallery management. Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, curatorial studies, art history, or equivalent practical experience. Current students are also eligible to apply.

What’s Provided

  • Project stipend of $5,000, disbursed over ten monthly payments tied to deliverables

  • Hands-on coordination of monthly exhibitions in the Frank‑Ratchye Studio Artist Project Space (FRPS) including artist outreach, installation support, image and text editing

  • Participation in the Curatorial Committee: attend proposal review meetings and strategic planning sessions with Bay Area curators and arts professionals

  • Contribution to Main Gallery programming: assist guest curators, manage exhibitions, public programs, catalog writing, and support 2nd Saturday events

  • Opportunity to publish art writing on Root Division’s platform and attend professional development workshops/classes at no cost 

What the Applicant Must Cover

  • Travel to and accommodation in San Francisco

  • Any personal expenses not included or reimbursed by the fellowship

  • Required minimum of 20 hours/month commitment (approx. 5 hours/week), including onsite hours, receptions, meetings, and occasional evening events from October 2025 through August 2026

Priority deadline: Monday, September 8, 2025 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Finalists must be available for interviews between September 10–20. 

Other Essential Notes

  • Ideal for candidates with strong administrative, organizational and writing skills, and proficiency with Mac, G Suite, Dropbox, and basic exhibition coordination tools

  • Beneficial skills include photography, graphic design, public relations, or installation experience, though willingness to learn is acceptable

  • Root Division is a nonprofit visual arts center in SoMa, offering dynamic programming and community engagement in San Francisco’s Bay Area arts ecosystem
