Future Materials Fellowships 2026

Open to
Artists and designers with a sound artistic practice in material research, working with an existing project to be further developed. Applicants must demonstrate understanding of material chemistry, history, and context. Jan van Eyck alumni are not eligible.

Application Fee
€50 (waived for applicants from Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries, and Lower Middle Income Countries on the DAC list).

What’s Provided

  • Residency period: 15 January – 15 December 2026

  • Private studio at the Jan van Eyck Academie

  • Access to academy labs, expertise, and public program

  • Collaboration opportunities with partner institutions (Art Academy Maastricht, CHILL at Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Textile Innovation Maastricht)

  • €1,750 monthly stipend (80% tax exempt)

  • €2,250 working budget

  • Exemption from annual enrolment fee

  • Presentation during Jan van Eyck Open Studios 2026

  • Inclusion in the Future Materials Bank

What the Fellow Must Cover

  • Accommodation in Maastricht or surroundings (within 10 km); guidance provided but not arranged by the academy.

Additional Notes

  • Fellows will contribute to workshops within the “Recycling as Reproducing Histories” project at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.

  • Application materials: single PDF (max 10MB) including motivational letter, project proposal, CV, and recent work documentation.
