International Short Film Festival Oberhausen – 73rd Edition Submission

Open to
Filmmakers submitting works produced after 1 January 2026. The festival accepts international productions, German productions, NRW productions, children’s and youth films, and German music videos, subject to the specific competition regulations.
For the International Competition, films must be no longer than 35 minutes, produced outside Germany (except co-productions), and have a German festival premiere.
For the German Competition, films must be no longer than 45 minutes and have their production seat in Germany. No festival premiere is required.
Application Fee
The first five submissions by one submitter are free. From the sixth submission onward, a handling fee of €20 per film applies.
What’s Provided
Selected filmmakers participating in the on-site competitions will be invited to Oberhausen. Competition selection results will be announced by email in mid-March 2027.
What the Artist/Applicant Must Cover
Applicants must submit their film through the online entry form and provide a preview link. Film submissions can only be entered in one competition at a time.

Deadline
18 January 2027 for all competitions, except the MuVi Award.
Early Bird Deadline
13 September 2026 for the International Competition only. Eligible works submitted by this date will be previewed in advance, with decisions communicated in November 2026.
Other Essential Notes
The 73rd edition of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen will take place from 27 April–2 May 2027.
For the MuVi Award, the submission deadline is 22 February 2027. Music videos must be German productions, with the director or production based in Germany, and have a maximum running time of 15 minutes.
