MySide – Grassroots Documentary Photography Project

Newcastle upon Tyne, UK (online submission; images may be featured in future physical or pop‑up exhibitions)
Open to
Everyone. Participation is open to all individuals—whether you photograph on a phone or with professional equipment. Submissions need to feel authentic, personal, and meaningful. Current theme: “Places That Made Us”, inviting photos of landscapes, personal environments, landmarks, cultural spaces, or places tied to memory and identity. Application Fee

What’s Provided
Publication of selected images on Side’s website and social media, with credit
Inclusion in possible future online exhibitions, blog posts, zines or books
When Side reopens or hosts pop‑up exhibitions, selected MySide images may be shown in physical formats
Contribute to a community archive of identity, place, and social belonging
What the applicant must cover
Creation of images relevant to the theme
Submission via online form or tagged via Instagram (#MySide + @amber_sidegallery)
Upload low-resolution files (max 1 MB); high-resolution files requested later if selected
Duration
Themes rotate every three months; submissions accepted continuously under current theme until next topic is announced
Deadline
Rolling—current cycle runs until the theme ends; ongoing open call with quarterly thematic changes
Additional Notes
Images must have been taken within the last five years (to maintain contemporary relevance)
Selection criteria include emotional resonance, narrative, clear point of view, and authenticity—not technical polish alone
All uses of submitted images will include photographer credit; permissions for any publication or exhibition will be arranged with selected contributors
