Established and emerging writers in Canada and around the world. Submissions are open to poetry writers, including those working in cross-genre, hybrid, interdisciplinary, speculative poetry and poetics.
Current and incoming students and faculty of the University of British Columbia’s Creative Writing Program, including the UBC Optional-Residency MFA Program, are not eligible. UBC alumni cannot have taken a UBC Creative Writing Program course during the previous two years.
Application Fee
$3.00 reading fee per submission. An Inclusive Access option is available for applicants unable to pay the regular fee.
What’s Provided
Selected work may be published in PRISM international. Contributors are paid $45 per printed page for poetry and receive two copies of the issue in which their work appears.
What the artist/applicant must cover
Applicants must submit up to five previously unpublished poems, with a maximum of seven pages. Submissions must be made online through Submittable, except for incarcerated writers. Applicants must provide a cover letter with full contact information and a short bio.

Not applicable. Submissions are accepted year-round, with this submission period closing November 15, 2026.

PRISM international does not accept previously published work, including work published in print or online. Simultaneous submissions are accepted.
Submissions must not use AI assistance at any stage of the creation process.
The publication does not publish the same writer twice in a publication year.
Submissions containing gratuitous violence, casual or overt misogyny and/or racism, sexual or other trauma used as a plot device, or certain representations of female characters are strongly discouraged and may not be considered. If such elements are essential to the narrative and handled with care, a clear content warning must be included at the top of the submission.
