Recology Artist in Residence Program 2026

Open to
Emerging, mid-career, and established artists in all disciplines who live within a one-hour drive of Recology San Francisco. Applicants must not be employed by, contracted with, or serve as an elected/appointed official for the City of San Francisco. A tour of the Recology facility (within the last 3 years) is required before applying.

What’s Provided

• Four-month residency at Recology San Francisco Transfer Station

• $1,500/month unrestricted stipend

• Access to discarded materials

• Studio space

• Artist schedule flexibility

• Public presentation opportunities (e.g., tours)

What the artist/applicant must cover

• All other personal and production-related expenses

Duration
Residency periods:

• February – May 2026

• June – September 2026

• October 2026 – January 2027

Deadline
September 1, 2025

Notes

• A formal art education is not required

• Applicants must commit 10–20 hours/week in the studio during standard working hours

• Selected artists will be contacted for interviews in November 2025

• Portfolio (1–6 works), artist statement (200 words), resume, and detailed proposal required
