Additional Notes

  • Limit two free submissions per open reading period

  • No previously published work accepted

  • Simultaneous submissions allowed with prompt withdrawal if accepted elsewhere

  • Submissions using AI tools will be declined unless the piece critically addresses AI use

  • Contests include:

    • John Steinbeck Award for Fiction

    • Gabriele Rico Challenge for Nonfiction

    • Edwin Markham Prize for Poetry

    • Mary Blair Award for Art

    • Emerging Voices Contest (Santa Clara County high school students only)
