Rijksakademie Residency 2027

Open to
Visual artists from all countries and disciplines. Individuals, duos, or collectives may apply. Applicants are generally expected to have 2–3 years of independent professional practice. BA or MA is common but not strictly required.
Application Fee
€60 (waived for applicants residing in DAC-list countries)
What’s Provided
Private studio (with internet, heating, electricity)
Stipend of €19,800 per year (paid monthly)
Working budget: €2,500 per year
Access to technical workshops, facilities, library, and the institution’s art collection
Mentorship, advice, and support from artistic/technical/theoretical staff and peers
Subsidised lunch and dinner in the onsite cantina during the week
For international artists: support with visa process and access to modest (but affordable) housing in Amsterdam.
What the Artist Must Cover
Annual participation fee: €1,875, to be paid before the residency year starts. (Sponsorship or alternative funding may be possible.)
If selected: commitment to help raise a fellowship (approximately €20,000/year) — as part of the institution’s funding structure. Effort and proof of attempts required, though failure to secure fellowship does not block residency place.
Living costs beyond the stipend standard (especially if bringing partner/family), housing outside provided accommodation, and any personal expenses.
Duration
Two-year residency programme (with possibility to stay one additional year, depending on selection).

1 February 2026 (application period: 1 January – 1 February 2026)
Other Essential Notes
Applicants may apply up to three times.
Applicants should not have done a residency at other Dutch post-academic institutions (such as the Jan van Eyck Academy or De Ateliers).
Application requires portfolio documentation, CV, motivation statement — full material requirements will be visible when the application form opens on 1 January 2026.
