Visual artists, curators, and writers aged 21 or older, based anywhere in the world. Applications must be submitted in English.

Application Fee
USD $95 (non-refundable).

What's Provided

  • Four-week retreat in Kyoto (November 1–30, 2026)

  • Round-trip flight to Kansai International Airport (KIX)

  • Private bedroom in a shared house

  • USD $800 to help cover meals and local transportation

  • Airport pickup and arrival/departure assistance

  • A research- and reflection-focused residency with no requirement to produce new work or complete a project.

What the Applicant Must Cover

  • Application fee (USD $95).

  • Any expenses beyond the provided airfare, accommodation, and USD $800 allowance are not specified as covered.

4 weeks (November 1–30, 2026).

July 17, 2026. Applicants will be notified by September 1, 2026.

Additional Notes

  • This is a retreat rather than a studio or production residency; participants are encouraged to use the time for rest, research, and reflection.

  • Applications are reviewed by the director and an international selection committee.

  • Applicants may submit a CV/resume and up to 10 work samples (images, PDFs, audio, or video).
