The Penn Review – Open Call for Submissions

Open to
All writers and visual artists (no minimum age requirement). Accepts poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art submissions. Submissions are read blind by the editorial team.
Application Fee
General submissions: Free
Optional 2026 Prose/Poetry/Art competition: $10 entrance fee for prize consideration
What’s Provided
Consideration for publication in The Penn Review (biannual online issues and annual print)
Optional prizes with $500 awards for winners in each category (where applicable)
What the Applicant Must Cover
Submission through Submittable platform
Adhere to specific category guidelines (e.g., up to 5 poems, 3 prose pieces, or 10 works of visual art).
Duration (if applicable)
Submissions are accepted only within defined reading periods:
Spring Reading Period: February 4 – March 25
Fall Reading Period: September 10 – November 7
Deadline
Current Spring Reading Period deadline: March 25 (Year implied ongoing).
Other Notes
Simultaneous submissions are accepted (must be indicated).
Works previously published elsewhere (reprints) are not accepted.
