Visions du Réel – Call for Films & Projects 2027

Open to
Filmmakers submitting films for the Official Selection, and filmmakers submitting projects for VdR–Industry activities. Film categories include the International Feature Film Competition, Burning Lights Competition, National Competition, International Medium Length and Short Film Competition, Wide Angle, and Opening Scenes.

Projects may be submitted to VdR–Pitching, VdR–Work in Progress, or VdR–Rough Cut Lab. Specific eligibility requirements apply to each activity.

Application Fee
Films submitted by the early deadline:

  • Short films: CHF 25

  • Feature films: CHF 35

Films submitted by the final deadline:

  • Short films: CHF 40

  • Feature films: CHF 50

VdR–Industry projects:

  • Early deadline: CHF 30

  • Final deadline: CHF 40

What’s Provided
Selected films are considered for the Official Selection of the 58th edition of Visions du Réel, taking place from 9–18 April 2027.

Selected projects may be presented through VdR–Industry activities, including VdR–Pitching, VdR–Work in Progress, and VdR–Rough Cut Lab. These activities provide opportunities for professional presentations, meetings, feedback, and industry connections, depending on the selected activity.

What the Artist/Applicant Must Cover
Applicants must pay the applicable submission fee. Additional participation costs may apply to selected VdR–Industry projects, depending on the activity.

Duration
Festival: 9–18 April 2027.
VdR–Industry activities take place during 11–14 April 2027, with some online meetings scheduled for 20–21 April 2027.

Deadline
Early deadline: 2 November 2026
Final deadline: 15 December 2026

Other Essential Notes
Films submitted for competition must be available as a world, international, or European premiere; films available only as a Swiss premiere will not be considered.

For VdR–Industry, projects must meet the specific eligibility requirements of the selected activity.
