Vital Impacts Environmental Photography Grants & Mentorships

Location
Global (projects must be based in the photographer’s own local community)

Open to
Photographers embedded in their own communities who are documenting environmental or conservation issues. Applicants must not reside in sanctioned territories or be the target of sanctions. Prior publication experience is not required. Proposals may be submitted in English or the applicant’s native language.

$25

What’s Provided

  • One (1) $20,000 grant (Jane Goodall Grant)

  • Six (6) $5,000 grants (named in honor of E.O. Wilson, Sylvia Earle, Chico Mendes, Madonna Thunder Hawk, Ian Lemaiyan, and Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim)

  • 10 mentorship opportunities for emerging photographers

  • Full-year development support from Vital Impacts

  • Online mentorship series open to all applicants

What the artist/applicant must cover
Any costs not included in the grant; applicants must be working within their own communities and are expected to build on existing relationships with stakeholders

12 months from grant award date

Deadline
September 15, 2025
Winners and mentorship recipients will be announced in October 2025

Additional Notes
Applicants must adhere to the Vital Impacts Code of Ethics and be able to sign the Environmental Grant Agreement. Previous applicants and past recipients are welcome to apply again.
