Residency for International Artists at Westwerk 2027–2028

Open to
Professional international solo artists aged 23 or older who reside outside Germany and work in the fields of visual arts or photography. Applicants working in film, multimedia, or music are eligible if their work has a connection to visual arts. Applicants should have previous international experience. This residency is not intended for curators.

What's Provided

• Three-month residency at Westwerk artists' centre.

• Rent-free 68 m² live/work apartment with WiFi.

• Monthly expense allowance of €900.

• Travel expenses for one return journey.

• Mentoring by Westwerk e.V.

• One-time €500 subsidy for the organisation of a final public presentation.

What the Artist Must Cover

• Health insurance.

• Personal liability insurance.

• Residence permit and/or visa, if required.

Duration
Three months. Eight residency periods are available between January 2027 and December 2028. Applicants may indicate multiple preferred residency periods.

Other Essential Notes

• Artists are required to live and work at Westwerk during the residency.

• Applications must be submitted online in German or English.

• A final public presentation is expected during the residency.

• A written report must be submitted within one month after the residency ends.
