YÁO Alternative Space 2027 Exhibition Open Call

Artists and curators of all ages, nationalities, identities, themes, and exhibition formats. The open call welcomes any interesting exhibition proposals.

What’s Provided
Selected applicants will receive an exhibition slot at YÁO Alternative Space in 2027.

Available exhibition periods:

  • April 7–27, 2027 (4 weeks)

  • May 5–June 1, 2027 (4 weeks)

  • July 7–August 3, 2027 (4 weeks)

  • August 11–September 7, 2027 (4 weeks)

Each exhibition slot includes installation and de-installation time, as well as the space’s Monday and Tuesday public holidays.

Selected exhibiting artists may also apply for YÁO BnB accommodation. The accommodation is a paid shared apartment option available only to participating artists from outside Taichung or overseas.

What the Artist/Applicant Must Cover
This is an exhibition space application, not a residency program.

Selected artists are responsible for:

  • Venue rental fees (according to the YÁO Guidelines)

  • Production costs

  • Transportation costs

  • Installation costs

After acceptance, applicants must submit:

  • Venue Rental Agreement

  • Noise Commitment Letter

  • Security deposit

Duration
Each exhibition slot is 4 weeks.

Application Requirements
Application materials must be compiled into one PDF file and submitted through the application form via a cloud link. Additional files will not be accepted.

The PDF must include:

  • Artist statement or curatorial statement

  • At least 500 words describing the artistic practice or exhibition concept

  • 5–10 images of recent works (video works should include links; personal website optional)

  • Exhibition proposal or preliminary exhibition concept

  • Any additional information the applicant would like to provide

Additional Notes

  • Applications are accepted only through the application form. Email, Instagram, and Facebook messages will not be accepted.

  • Applicants selected for exhibition will be notified by email by August 31, 2026, and must confirm within 3 days. Failure to reply will result in cancellation of the exhibition slot.

  • Applicants who are not selected will not receive further notification.

  • Projects requiring special installation methods or non-standard spatial arrangements must be explained in the proposal.

  • YÁO BnB accommodation is paid and not open to the public.
